A Cotswold Wedding

The Eley Family of Nibley House in North Nibley, Gloucestershire invite you to hold your wedding in their family home.

Nibley House is one of the few Georgian great houses that is still a family home, and is surrounded on all sides by gardens, farmland and glorious Cotswold views. We are right on the Cotswold Way at the south end of the county.

Inside we have two grand, elegantly decorated rooms (see the clickable thumbnails on the left), and outside are 2.5 acres of beautiful gardens and 200 acres of farmland and woodland.

You can enjoy drinks on the lawns, admiring the beauty of Stinchcombe Hill and Nibley Knoll, or set up your marquee on the large front lawn. The extensive and hilly grounds provide many unusual photo opportunities.

The Nibley House style

What makes the perfect wedding day? We asked a great many people about this - both brides-to-be and those now married - because we wanted to be sure we could give you your very best day.

Three things came up consistently:

  • A lovely day with lovely people: that's how most people described what they wanted. All their favourite people in the world in one place, all in the mood to party.
  • No conveyor belts: this was all about the attitude of the venue owners/managers. Our brides wanted to feel valued, special; and to feel part of the story of the place in which they would marry.
  • It's not just a day, it's all the days leading up to it: brides found that the better the relationship and communication they had with the venue owners, the more connected they felt with the venue on the day.

So, where do we fit into these views? Well, Nibley House is both a family home and a working farm, with a charm wholly missing from the sterile, super-renovated public buildings we see elsewhere: its history is still being created.

Everyone who comes here comments on how relaxing they find the house and its grounds and views. The whole house and grounds are yours for the duration of your wedding event - there are no competing events or other guests wandering around.

We have been running weddings, parties and village events for many years, and love every minute of it. "There aren't many places like Nibley House left now, and I think it's important that they should be fully used and enjoyed", says Walter Eley, who is your main wedding contact at Nibley House.

Come and look around

We will be having a Brides' Open Day in May 2010, but we welcome visitors at any time - a phone call beforehand will ensure someone is here to show you around. Or, to get the best feel possible, come and stay. Bring your walking boots: we're not right on the Cotswold Way for nothing!
